Moremi

The Moremi Game Reserve covers much of the eastern side of the Okavango Delta, as it combines the water from the Delta with the drier areas. This Reserve is well known for the height of its trees which cover the central thickly wooded areas, home to the shy and elusive Leopard. This all combines to ensure some startling and unexpected contrasts within one of Africa’s most beautiful game reserves.

Described as 4x4 country roads are often inaccessible when they have been flooded by the waters of the Khwai River. In the dry season driver’s skills are still tested as many roads constitute deep soft churning sand, yet visitors can experience excellent game viewing by 4x4, as well as bird-watching on the lagoons by mokoro, a dug-out canoe poled by your personal Guide.

There are four areas that have been set-aside for camping, South Gate, Third Bridge, Xakanaxa, and Khwai River where you will find a long bridge constructed entirely out of mopane poles.

Moremi is best visited in the dry season with game viewing at its peak from July to October, when seasonal pans dry up with wildlife concentrations moving to the permanent water sites. From October until the start of the rains in late November or early December, the weather can be extremely hot.

Birdlife is prolific and varied, nearly 500 species, ranging from water birds to shy forest dwellers. Elephants are numerous, particularly during the dry season. Moremi has a vast array of other wildlife species which include lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, hyena, jackal, buffalo, giraffe, hippo, and a large range of buck species including the red lechwe.

We look forward to showing you this remarkable area. We have our own 4 x 4, and will tailor make a trip to suit your requirements. For groups of more than four guests, we will use two vehicles as well as an accompanying 4 x 4 trailer.
