Savuti boasts one of the highest concentrations of wildlife left on the African continent, and is often described as one of, if not the best, wildlife-viewing area in Africa today. One of the greatest mysteries is the Savuti Channel itself, which has over the past 100 years inexplicably dried up and recommenced its flow several times. The present dry period started in 1982.
Savuti is famous for its predators, particularly its resident lions and spotted hyena populations. (See the movies “Lions of Darkness”, “Eternal Enemies”, and many others which have been filmed in this area.) Sometimes you will have them uncomfortably close, as both lions and marauding hyenas do wander through the campsite at night.
Animals are present during all seasons, whilst at certain times of the year their numbers can be staggering. We should allow ourselves adequate time here (a minimum of three to four days is recommended), and you will probably see nearly all the major species of buck, kudu, warthog, giraffe, elephant, wildebeest, buffalo herds and the accompanying predators which include lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, jackal, and wild dog.
We look forward to showing you this remarkable area. We have our own 4 x 4, and will tailor make a trip to suit your requirements. For groups of more than four guests, we will use two vehicles as well as an accompanying 4 x 4 trailer.
